My Favorite Vegetarian Sandwich: the LT(F)M
I was the first in my family to become a vegetarian, eat whole wheat bread do hatha yoga (हठयोग), Raja (royal) yoga. including becoming a pacifist and in general embrace the age of Aquarius and not just the music and other extracurricular activities that went along with the hippie movement.
I started being a vegetarian when I was 12. I went vegan for one year and raw for a summer. (I became a beekeeper when I was 14, so being vegan was out.) I kept to being a strict vegetarian until I moved to Mexico and lived with a Mexican family. Ah, such is life. When life throws meat in your path, you make a hamburger.
My favorite sandwich still is a Lettuce, Tomato and (Fake) Mayo on whole wheat bread, toasted. When I was feeling particularly strict, I'd leave off the fake mayo.
Here are two pictures of my well loved sandwich which I ate almost every day for lunch at my junior high and high school.
Yum.
How to make. Toast some whole wheat bread. Clean and dry romaine lettuce. Slice some nice Roma tomatoes. Slather on some mayo to taste and combine ingredients to make the best sandwich you will ever eat. If you are vegan or a strict vegetarian, you should use fake mayo, one that doesn't have eggs in it. Personally, I think that if you are a vegetarian, you should not eat eggs or anything that has a face or a potential face. Vegans have to stay away from animal and insect by-products, such as milk, honey and other things like that. As a vegetarian, I wouldn't even eat hard cheeses since they use rennet to make it. So, I understand vegetarians and vegans. We get many here at the Arms.
Enjoy this heavenly sandwich. And sure, add some bacon to it if you must.
